Frequently Asked Questions

  • Your first session is all about you. This is a chance for your therapist to get to know you, and for you to feel comfortable in the space. This is for you to share your story, what is most important to you, who is in your support system, what challenges you, what you enjoy, etc. While understanding why you need therapy is important, we also want to understand you beyond the reasons you sought therapy.

  • How often you see your therapist is really up to you. Usually, your therapist will make a recommendation but ultimately, that decision is up to you and the many factors you may need to consider (finances, schedule, etc). New clients usually see their therapist once or more a week. However, we realize that there’s a lot that goes into this decision. If you would like to see your therapist less or more frequently, please let them know! As far as how many sessions you need, this is based on how you are feeling about the progress you’ve made. Some clients see their therapists for years, others will see them for just a few months. The therapeutic relationship can be as short or long as you and your therapist see fit.

  • You’ll be able to have a free consultation with your therapist before starting your sessions. This is a good time to assess if your therapist is a good fit for you. Sometimes, you may have second thoughts and realize you’re looking for something different. If that’s the case, please let your therapist know. Our goal is to make sure you are receiving the support you need! We’re happy to provide you with referrals.

  • If you need to reach your therapist between sessions, you can contact them through text or by email for brief, non-urgent matters such as scheduling or clarifying homework assignments. Please note that therapists are typically unable to provide ongoing therapy or crisis support outside of scheduled sessions. If you’re experiencing an emergency or need immediate support, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room. You can also reach out to the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline by dialing 988.
